Surgery Day

Thursday August 10, 2017
I'm waiting.... waiting .. Dan has been in surgery for over 4 hours.  Elaine is here with me.  We went out to lunch at the Old Spaghetti Factory... now we are sitting in the waiting room. waiting..

.........

Dr Pickron just came out to talk to us.  He said the surgery went exactly as planned.  He was able to do the surgery laparoscopically. There was some scar tissue from Dan's previous cancer surgery 25 years ago but aside from that, the surgery was executed without any complications.  The tumor was about 3 cm just as it showed on the MRI Monday (much smaller than the 10cm measurement that Dr. Ziegler saw two weeks ago and Dr. Grunander saw last Friday).  Dr. Pickron was able to get clean margins and he was able to to a reanastomosis during surgery.

Dan is in recovery and will be on the 5th floor in a room in about an hour.  I feel so relieved!  It has been such a traumatic experience.  It almost feels like I'm watching it all happen through an out of body experience.  Or that I'm watching it happen to someone else.  I'm going through all of the experiences but I my brain can't quite grasp the gravity of what is happening. I'm sure it will take months to fully absorb all that has happened in such a short amount of time.

Going into surgery...
